ANNUAL SPORTS MEET 2024-25
The Annual Sports Meet of Malabar Training College for the academic year 2024-2025 was successfully conducted on January 11, 2025, at the St. Josephs Higher Secondary School ground in Thundiyil. This highly anticipated event marked a day of vibrant athletic competition and spirited participation, bringing together students, staff, and faculty for a celebration of physical fitness and sportsmanship. The picturesque grounds of St. Joseph's provided the perfect setting for the wide array of events that took place, ranging from track and field competitions to team sports, all contributing to an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie. The sports meet not only highlighted the importance of physical activity but also fostered teamwork, discipline, and a sense of community among the participants. This event has become a cornerstone of the college’s extracurricular activities, underscoring the institution’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals.
The formal inauguration ceremony began at 9:30 AM. The event commenced with a warm welcome speech by Libina C. N, Assistant Professor of Physical Education at Malabar Training College, Peravoor, who greeted the gathering and set the tone for the day’s proceedings. Following this, the Principal of Malabar Training College, Peravoor, Indu K. Mathew, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the importance of sports and physical education in shaping well-rounded individuals.
The highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the flag hoisting, performed by the Chief Guest, Akhil K Sreedhar, Assistant Professor of Physical Education at PRNSS College, Mattanur. This was followed by the symbolic Olympic Lamp Relay, a revered tradition that ignites the spirit of sportsmanship. The Chief Guest handed over the Olympic Lamp to the General Captain of the 2024-25 Union, Ashwin K. Ravindran. The lamp was passed through several hands, with Alfin Reji, Aparna, Merin, and finally, former General Captain Anuragh Shajan, each receiving and passing on the torch, symbolizing unity and the passing of responsibility.
The Chief Guest, Akhil K. Sreedhar, then delivered the inaugural speech, inspiring the participants and emphasizing the values of perseverance, teamwork, and fair play. Following this, Ashwin K. Ravindran, the General Captain, led the oath-taking ceremony, reaffirming the commitment to uphold the principles of sportsmanship. The Union Chairman, Vishnu N, along with former General Captain Anuragh Shajan, felicitated the participants, offering words of encouragement and congratulating them for their involvement. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ashwin K Ravindran, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, and everyone involved in making the event a success.
After the inauguration, a mass demonstration by both junior and senior students of Malabar Training College was conducted, showcasing their synchronized skills and team spirit. This added an extra layer of excitement to the event, highlighting the dedication and talent of the students in both athletics and coordinated performances.
The sports events for the Annual Sports Meet "Invictus Malabar" kicked off promptly at 8:15 AM on January 11, 2025, with a series of exciting athletic competitions. The day began with the 1500m men’s race, which set the pace for the day’s events. Following this, participants showcased their skill in the javelin throw, with separate rounds for both men and women.
Next, the 100m race for both men and women provided thrilling short-distance sprints, followed by the 800m race for both genders, offering a test of stamina and endurance. The long jump events for both men and women came next, with athletes striving to achieve their best leaps in this classic field event.
The 200m race for men and women followed, leading into the 400m race, which further challenged the participants' speed and endurance. Both the men’s and women’s discus throws showcased the strength and precision of the athletes in the field events.
The shot put event, which was scheduled a day earlier on January 10, 2025, took place at the college court, rounding off the field events before the final competition of the day.
The grand finale of the sports meet was the 4x100m relay, where teams of four from both men and women’s categories raced to the finish line, concluding the day's events in a high-energy, competitive finish. The relay was a perfect culmination of the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship that the event stood for.
After the events concluded, the much-awaited prize distribution ceremony was held. The Fortius team emerged victorious, securing first place, while Citius claimed the second position. In the individual categories, Alfin Reji was crowned the male individual champion, while Catharine won the title of female individual champion, having delivered outstanding performances throughout the day.
