HASTHA- ONAM CELEBRATION




 Onam is a significant festival celebrated in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is a ten-day harvest festival that marks the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali. Onam is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy by people of all ages.

Malabar Training College Celebrates Onam with Vibrant Colors of Culture and Tradition On September 14, 2024, Malabar Training College in Peravoor hosted its Onam celebration, "Hasta 2K24." This vibrant event showcased the college community's rich cultural heritage, reinforcing tradition and teamwork.

The celebrations commenced at 9:30 AM with two exciting competitions: Onam Song Competition and Thiruvathira Competition. All six departments participated in these events, showcasing their talent and teamwork. The Onam Song Competition saw participants from each department rendering soulful renditions of traditional Onam songs. The judges were impressed by the melodious voices and energetic performances. The winners were awarded with prizes, and the participants received appreciation for their efforts. The Thiruvathira Competition, a traditional Kerala dance form, was another highlight of the event. Students from each department demonstrated their dancing skills, adorned in traditional attire. The judges praised the participants for their graceful movements and synchronization. All six departments of the college actively participated in the competitions, displaying their creativity and teamwork.

A Pookalam created by students to intricate floral designs. Pookalam, also known as flower rangoli, is an essential part of Onam celebrations. The students displayed their creativity and artistic skills by using a variety of flowers and petals to create stunning designs.

The inauguration function of “Hasta 2K24,” organized by Malabar Training College, commenced at 12:00 PM. The honorable celebration was formally inaugurated by Fr. Shaji Thekkemuryil, Vicar of St. Joseph’s Church, Peravoor. Principal Indu K. Mathew presided over the function.

The gathering was addressed by esteemed speakers, including Manager Vatsan Mathathil, Secretary Sreeja Mathathil, Principal of St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School K.V. Sebastian,Headmaster Sunny K. Sebastian, Headmaster of St. John’s Upper Primary School Sojan Varghese ,Headmaster of Vekkalam Upper Primary School T.D. Vincent,Headmistress of Manathana Upper Primary School U.V. Sajitha, Abhijith Devan, N. Vishnu.Their insightful speeches highlighted the importance of Onam and the role of education in shaping future generations.

This inauguration marked the beginning of a celebration that showcased the college community’s rich cultural heritage. Through various cultural programs, competitions, and festivities, Hasta 2K24 promoted unity, harmony, and teamwork among students, faculty, and staff.

 The celebrations concluded with a traditional Onam Sadya, a grand feast featuring authentic Kerala cuisine. The students, faculty, and staff relished the delicious spread, savoring the flavors of the festive season.

 To add a touch of excitement and fun, various traditional games and sports were organized. Students participated in activities like tug of war, lemon spoon, kaserakali , balloon pottikkal , saree draping for men and bottle filling. These games not only entertained the participants but also promoted teamwork, physical fitness, and a sense of healthy competition.

   Malabar Training College’s Onam celebration “Hasta 2K24” was a resounding success, reflecting the institution’s commitment to cultural preservation and community building. The event reinforced the values of unity, harmony, and teamwork, essential for academic excellence and personal growth.

The celebration demonstrated the college’s dedication to fostering a vibrant cultural atmosphere, enriching students’ experiences, and nurturing responsible citizens. As the college community came together to celebrate Onam, they reaffirmed their connection to Kerala’s rich heritage and traditions
